CITIZEN’S COMMENTS: Hilary Parmalee, the Western District Commissioner
for the Missouri Youth Soccer Association (MYSA), addressed the Grain Valley
Athletic Association (GVAA) regarding the requirements for the GVAA soccer
program to become part of MYSA. By becoming part of MYSA, GVAA would be able to
inter-league with surrounding KC Metro cities if needed. The KC Metro league plays an eight game
season which begins in March. Ms. Parmalee stated that the registration fee per
player is $ 9 to $ 10 and helps cover insurance for players and background
checks for all coaches. MYSA requires a
birth certificate and registration must be notarized for all players. Registration for MYSA goes by age group. Ms. Parmalee noted that all referees need
certification if GVAA becomes part of MYSA.
She recommended trying to become MYSA by the time Fall Soccer
Registration begins. Ms. Parmalee informed GVAA that MYSA is having their
February meeting on February 22-24th in Independence at the Hilton
Garden Inn. Around 300 coaches from
across the state will be in attendance. A motion was made by Jeff Fisher to send Matt Nelson and three
others to the MYSA meeting in February, seconded by D.K. Barr. Motion carried. Ms. Parmalee also informed GVAA that on January 24, 2008, Sports
City was holding a free “F” License Class for prospective coaches. The “F” License is the first license for a coach
to obtain and is followed by “D”, “C”, “B”, and “A” licenses, respectively. Matt Nelson, soccer commissioner, stated that
he will need to form a separate soccer committee to help with the GVAA soccer
program. According to MYSA, the GVAA
soccer program will have to have its own Constitution and By-Laws separate from
the ones already in place by GVAA. Ms.
Parmalee distributed samples of each for the members to look over. Matt Nelson will hold a meeting on January
15th at 7:00 pm at the Community Center for prospective soccer
coaches to inform them of “F” Certification Class in January and of GVAA’s
future involvement with MYSA.

Commissioner, announced that February 2, 2008 was picture day for basketball
teams. D.K. mentioned that 10 coaches
still need background checks. D.K. reported that a clarification was needed for
parents operating the time clocks at the games due to conflicting
interpretations of the current guidelines.
